Brio Howard, Owner and Massage Therapist
I love my work and am dedicated to my clients well being and health. I have had the great pleasure of working with a number of medical professionals including Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Naturopathic Doctors, and Acupuncturists. Each discipline offered new insight into the workings of the human body and educated my touch. My massage style is intuitive. I use both gentle and deep techniques, depending on what is needed to release muscle tension or stuckness.
Training
I received my initial training at Oregon School of Massage where I studied Swedish and table Shiatsu massage. I am trained in Total Body Modification, a muscle testing and correcting system founded in Applied Kinesiology(AK), Chiropractics, and Osteopathy. I have additional training in a muscle test and correct system call Touch for Health with Lucia Soppe and Integrative Scar tissue training work with Sharon Wheeler, a Rolfer. I study anterior neck techniques with Amy Bennett, whose focus is structural integration. I chose to work in medical settings where I had the opportunity to work with a variety of body types, doing various levels of activity (sedentary to yoga instructor), and injured bodies in motor vehicle accidents.
My Passion
I find the human body fascinating. How muscle and bone work together to allow or impede movement. How emotions can effect the body in both positive and negative ways. There is so much to learn and science is discovering more and more each day.
Personal
When I'm not massaging you'll often find me in the kitchen cooking/baking/canning something fantastic. I enjoy sourcing my ingredients locally. Being out in nature makes my heart sing, whether it's walking around Puffer's Pond with my wife, foraging for mushrooms or spotting an owl. I also enjoy creating paper and fabric art just for the pleasure of creating.
